“It has been fantastic to work at the zoo once again especially after we had originally installed the catering facility in this area when it was known then as Tsavo Cafe back in 2006.”

Andy Pace
Project Manager

The popular restaurant at the UK’s number one wildlife attraction required reliable and professional facilities to cater for the heavy footfall at the site, with the destination popular with families, school groups and organised events.

A front of house servery area was designed by the team, with C&C Catering Fabrications Ltd supplying and fitting the food and beverage counters at the Bembe Café.

The C&C team had to work carefully, with full consideration of the unique location. In order to cause minimum disruption to the animals, all noisy work had to be carried out when animals would not be resting or sleeping. Extra care had to be to taken to ensure the newest addition to the zoo, a baby rhino, was undisturbed, with the team taking measures such as keeping windows shut when using heavy equipment for sound control.

Additionally, the project required a quick turnaround in order to open its doors ready for the half term rush.

Sales Director Peter Farrell added, “We’re really pleased with the end result and are proud to have worked closely with the client’s team at the zoo and the interior designers, Pembroke Design, and main contractors, Thompsons Ltd.”.

Chester Zoo is very happy with the end product, and acknowledged good collaboration and team effort to meet target dates with a very demanding programme.
