“It was extremely satisfying to compete this challenging project to the level of quality that we delivered, in what were very difficult logistical and challenging times.”

“We used a wide range of quality finishes throughout our bespoke equipment, which took a lot of careful planning but reflected very well in the end product.”

C&C Catering Equipment Ltd – Project Manager

C&C Catering Equipment are delighted to present their award winning work at a concert venue and former theatre in Camden Town. This project won the Project Management Excellence Award at ceda’s 2023 Grand Prix Awards.

London’s iconic KOKO, a favourite of Prince, Kanye West, Amy Winehouse, Madonna and Dua Lipa, relaunched in April 2022 after £70m of investment, as a state-of-the-art live music venue spanning 50,000 square feet.

The new KOKO blends together the three historic buildings – the original Grade II listed theatre (1900) plus two adjacent buildings – a former piano factory (1800) and a pub (1860). In doing so, and building four stories upwards, the new KOKO has ambitions to set a new precedent for live music and entertainment.

KOKO returns with four new venues for the public on the ground floor – the original and beautifully restored Victoria theatre, the ancient and dramatic, ‘Fly Tower’ venue, a new shop featuring artist collaborations and DJ space, and a morning-to-late-night pizzeria and tap bar hosting intimate live performances.

An exciting new membership offering gives access to several more floors above. Those with membership to ‘The House of KOKO’ will have access to a stunning new roof terrace and conservatory, dome cocktail bar, penthouse and recording studio, piano room, library, a hidden speakeasy, stage kitchen and vinyl rooms.

The project has taken seven years of planning and three years of build – led by KOKO Founder and Creative Director Olly Bengough together with Archer Humphryes Architects and Pirajean Lees (interiors).

C&C joined the project in January 2022, just before the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns hit. Whilst this did hamper work to begin with, the project stayed on track and continued to progress until its opening in April 2022. C&C remained on site until completion and handover in November 2022

We worked in the bar and catering facilities across the venue including, the ground floor pizzeria and bar, the level 1 members’ show kitchen and bar, the level 2 jazz bar, piano bar and kitchen, the level 3 pantry, the level 4 rooftop kitchen and bar and dome.

There were challenges on the project, mainly due to the Grade II listed status of the building. Access was extremely difficult in places, and equipment had to be craned in through a window on the first floor.
