We’ve always striven to provide the highest quality project drawings, but our recent investment in BIM software has taken our capabilities to a totally new level.

BIM, (Building Information Modelling) is a process of digitally designing every single aspect of a building including the catering scheme. Generating sophisticated 3D digital models of the kitchens, food preparation and service areas the client can see exactly what their new facility will look like. So effective is this design concept that the government are making BIM compulsory for all construction projects by 2016, but we have decided to get ahead of the game by utilising its potential now.

BIM is essentially a collaborative environment for all the information for a building design, which is created using a multi-dimensional model. This is used for the management of information within a project. The models created are not simply 3D versions of a 2D drawing, but highly detailed computer generated models which contain all relevant underlying data, such as; material, dimension, cost and even energy performance. Building Information Modelling is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility, creating a shared knowledge resource for information. This forms a reliable basis for decisions during its life cycle, from earliest conception to demolition.

Our Drawing Office Manager, John Mundy has been instrumental in introducing BIM into C&C. He says,

“The advantages to embracing this technology are endless. The catering equipment models we can now create allow us to provide our customers with a 3D representation of their planned kitchen design, with realistic video walk throughs which let our customers see exactly what they are getting and how their installation will look upon completion. They can include detailed service requirements which can be co-ordinated with other trades as a means of minimising design conflicts prior to commencing on site. It allows us to spot potential problems before they even occur.”

Our Managing Director Peter Kitchin comments,

“The service we can now offer our customers is in a different league to most other kitchen design and installation businesses in the Country.”
